The Week Inside the Storm: April 15th-April 21st

The end of the semester means the Spring season is coming to a close as well. Just a few weeks stand between the athletes and summer. The GLIAC schedule is coming to a end as the postseason becomes more clear. Two of the Storm teams have a shot at the postseason at this time. Once the season ends, I will have a season wrap-up with comments from all of the coaches and stats as well.

Quick Takes: The Storm played three games last week and put up some impressive numbers against some GLIAC competition. The Storm is 11-4, 4-1 heading into a non-conference matchup on Monday. They are closing in on a playoff berth with a few more wins this week in the GLIAC. The same group of players are continuing to lead the Storm. If this group can be solid into the postseason, the team can go far.

Quick Takes: The baseball team fell to a tough Grand Valley team after winning three straight during the week. At home, the Storm pulled off two walk-off wins and played great against ODU and Walsh. The team got contributions from the usual suspects and that could play big going to the last few games of the season. The pitching actually did very well this week, keeping the Storm in all of the games this week.

Quick Takes: Softball’s struggles continue to mount as they have not won a game since their Spring Break trip in March. They had a small offensive outburst with 9 runs this week. They were no-hit for the fourth time this year against Findlay. They finish up a terrible season this week with a few GLIAC games and then a series with Notre Dame College. I will see the team play on Wednesday for Senior Day as I will be announcing.

Quick Takes:  Senior Keegan Bal was named East Coast Athletic Conference Division II Lacrosse League Offensive Player of the Week.  It is the third time this season that the Storm co-captain has garnered the ECAC weekly honor. He totaled nine goals and four assists for 13 points in two games last week. The Storm re-entered the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Coaches’ Poll, checking in at No. 12. The Storm have won four of their last five games.  Lake Erie is also ranked fifth regionally, trailing East Coast Athletic Conference Division II Lacrosse League rivals Mercyhurst University and Seton Hill University as well as Limestone College and Pfeiffer University.  The top four teams in each region qualify for the NCAA Division II Championship tournament. The Storm has already clinched a spot in the ECAC Division II playoffs May 3-5 at a location to be determined.
