5/31: Radeke pitches Captains to 1-0 win in pitcher’s duel

DAYTON, OH- The Lake County Captains (18-33) scored one run in the sixth inning and put them on the winning side of a 1-0 pitchers duel against the Dayton Dragons (23-31) on Friday night. With the win, Lake County has won three straight games for the first time in 2013.

The game was delayed one hour and seven minutes due to heavy rains in the afternoon.

Once the game began, right-hander Mason Radeke made his 2013 debut for the Captains in the first game of the series as he took on lefty Ishmael Guillon for Dayton.

Radeke threw five shutout innings, only allowing a double in the second inning and one walk. He struck out seven batters to pick up his first win of the season.

The Captains scored the only run of the game in the sixth inning. Second baseman Yhoxian Medina led off the inning with a double. Centerfielder Aaron Siliga sacrificed Medina to third base with a bunt. Following a popup, shortstop Dorssys Paulino brought Medina home on an infield single for his sixteenth RBI of the year.

Guillon exited the game with two on and two out in the sixth inning. Ben Klimesh entered the game and retired the next batter with a groundout.

Guillon was the tough luck loser as he allowed one run on three hits in five and two thirds innings. He walked two and struck out five.

Josh Martin followed Radeke with three scoreless innings with two hits and four strikeouts. Louis Head finished the game with a perfect ninth for his third save of the year.

Klimesh threw two and a third scoreless innings with four strikeouts and Alejandro Chacin pitched a scoreless ninth inning as well.

The Captains only had three hits as did the Dragons.  Paulino was the only Captain to reach base twice as he singled and walked. Designated hitter Eric Haase and first baseman Joe Sever reached on a hit and walk respectively.

The Captains and Dragons will resume their four game series on Saturday night. Right-hander Jake Sisco (1-4, 3.45 ERA) will start for the Captains as he will face right-hander Pedro Diaz (1-4, 6.10 ERA) for the Dragons. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 PM.
