Captains represent in Midwest League All-Star Game

Two Captains players earned their way to the Midwest League All-Star Game in Dayton. OF Logan Vick and RHP Louis Head were selected by coaches in the league to play for the East All-Stars.

Vick finished the first half with a .262 average in 60 games (50-191). Vick has 13 doubles, 3 triples, and 2 home runs. He leads the team in RBIs (26), walks (38) and stolen bases (12).

Head threw 26.1 innings in 22 appearances in the first half. He has a team-leading 1.37 ERA and also leads with four saves.

Vick started the game in right field for the East. He struck out in the third, reached on a error in the fifth and scored on a RBI single.

Head walked a batter in the seventh and induced a double play before he was replaced in the game. Head threw 10 pitches with six for strikes.

The East defeated the West 6-5 on a walk-off RBI single by centerfielder Dalton Pompey (Lansing).

The Western Division squad took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Designated hitter Dan Vogelbach (Kane County) doubled in a run. Vogelbach scored on a sacrifice fly by second baseman Jorge Polanco (Cedar Rapids).

The Eastern Division answered with four in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. Shortstop Leonardo Reginatto (Bowling Green) singled home Vick to cut the lead in half. Second baseman Devon Travis (West Michigan) cleared the bases with a three-run triple.

Shortstop Zach Vincej (Dayton) added a run for the East in the seventh with a RBI single, making the score 5-2.

The Western squad made a comeback in the ninth inning, tying the game at five. Shortstop Niko Goodrum (Cedar Rapids) lined a two-run single to center field. RJ Hively (South Bend) uncorked a wild pitch to tie the game.

Hively picked up the win as Ryan Dull (Beloit) took the loss as he allowed the game-winning run.

Travis was named the MVP of the game with a 2-2 night including the 3-run triple.

Notes: Dayton OF Henry Winker hit 10 homeruns to help the East win the Home Run Derby as a team. The East won the Derby 19-13. The attendance for the All-Star Game was 8,746. The East has won two straight All-Star games.
