6/29: TinCaps Shutdown Captains 5-0

NOTE: This recap is the press release from the Captains, not my own recap.

(Eastlake, OH) – Chris Burke blasted his third homerun of the season to right field, to help Fort Wayne (3-6) defeat Lake County (5-5) by a final of 5-0. Lake County has now been shut out seven times on the season. The Captains have lost four consecutive ballgames.

Fort Wayne scored three runs in the second inning. The TinCaps used five hits all of them were singles. Rodney Daal, Brian Adams, and Mallex Smith all knocked in runs for the TinCaps. The score was 3-0 after two innings of play.

The homer by Burke made the score 4-0 TinCaps and Fort Wayne added a run in the seveth inning on a wild pitch and the score was 5-0. That was the final.

LHP Ryan Merritt (4-8) started for Lake County. Merritt took the loss. Ryan pitched six and one third innings, allowing 12 hits, and five earned runs. Merritt allowed two walks and one homerun. Cody Penny pitched one and two thirds scoreless innings. Penny walked one and struck out one. Felix Sterling pitched the ninth inning and did not allow a run.

Fort Wayne started LHP Max Fried (3-2). Fried, got the win. Max pitched five scoreless innings and allowed just two hits and he struck out three. The TinCaps bullpen combined to pitch four innings of scoreless baseball.

Lake County will continue a three game series against the Fort Wayne TinCaps. The Captains will start RHP Dylan Baker (4-5, 4.01). The TinCaps will start RHP Bryan Rodriguez (1-2, 3.08). First Pitch will be at 1:30PM from Classic Park.
