6/30: Baker helps Captains win 1-0

Eastlake, Ohio- The Lake County Captains (6-5. 29-49) scored a run in the third inning and that proved to be enough as Dylan Baker twirled eight shutout innings against the Fort Wayne Tincaps (3-7, 46-33) on Sunday afternoon.

Baker made his fourteenth start of the year for the Captains as he took on Bryan Rodriguez for the Tincaps.

Third baseman Todd Hankins coaxed a one-out walk in the third inning and scored when shortstop Dorssys Paulino lined a triple down the right field line. That was the only run of the game.

Baker took a no-hitter through six innings and allowed two hits before departing for the ninth inning. Baker earned his fifth win after eight innings of two-hit ball. He walked one and fanned four.

Baker finished June with a 4-1 record and a 2.95 ERA. He started six games, counting for 36.2 innings. He has allowed 22 hits, 14 runs/12 earned runs, 14 walks and 23 strikeouts.

Josh Martin worked around a single and hit batter to earn his second save with a scoreless ninth.

Rodriguez was hung with the tough-luck loss, going five innings with one run allowed on four hits. He walked one batter and struck out four. Matthew Shepherd blanked the Captains over three innings of relief.

Lake County improved to 5-8 against the Tincaps in 2013. The Captains are 4-2 in 1-0 games, while being 11-11 in one run games altogether.

The Captains had five hits on Sunday. Designated hitter Richard Stock had two of the hits.

The Captains and Tincaps will take part in the rubber game of the series on Monday night. RHP Luis Dejesus (2-8, 6.06) will start for the Captains against RHP Joe Ross (3-2, 3.24) for the Tincaps. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM from Classic Park.
