8/20: Lugnuts shutout Captains 6-0

LANSING, MI- The Lansing Lugnuts salvaged a series split with the Lake County Captains on Tuesday night after a six-run seventh inning. The Lugnuts won the series finale by a final score of 6-0 at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Left-hander Luis Lugo made his first Captains start after being from promoted from Mahoning Valley as he faced fellow southpaw Daniel Norris for the Lugnuts.

Lugo opened his Captains career with five shutout innings. He allowed two hits and one walk with five strikeouts. Luis Morel came in for the sixth inning.

Norris lasted six innings as he surrendered two hits and one walk. He fanned four batters before turning the ball over to Javier Avendano.

Lansing scored six runs in the seventh on four hits, two walks and two errors. Chris Hawkins had a RBI double before Carlos Ramirez added a two-run single to right field. Dalton Pompey and Dwight Smith each singled home a run while Emilio Guerrero plated a run with a sacrifice fly.

Morel took the loss after he gave up six runs (four earned) on four hits and three walks in one and two thirds innings.Cody Penny pitched one and one third scoreless innings to finish the game.

Avendano allowed one walk in his three scoreless innings to pick up the win.

The Captains were held to two singles on the night in the first and second innings, respectively.

The Captains will return to Eastlake, Ohio on Wednesday to take on the Dayton Dragons in the first game of a three game set. The Captains will start RHP Dylan Baker (7-6, 3.77) to start the ballgame and the Dragons will throw with LHP Amir Garrett (1-2, 5.16). First Pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM from Classic Park.
